Consider the evaporator as a compact radiator concealed behind your dashboard. While a standard radiator dissipates heat from the engine, this component extracts heat from the interior of the vehicle. As the blower fan directs air over the cold coils, the refrigerant within absorbs the heat, resulting in the cool air emanating from the apertures. It is the ultimate stage in the cooling process prior to the air reaching you.

Problems with the evaporator are typically quite evident. You may observe: 1. A peculiar, sweet odor: If a chemical-like scent is present within the vehicle, it often indicates a refrigerant escape. 2. Mist emanating from the vents: Occasionally, a faint fog or vapor may be observed emerging from the air conditioning system. 3. Wet passenger floors: If the drain line becomes obstructed or the core develops a malfunction, water or coolant may accumulate on the passenger-side floor mat.

The evaporator is situated within the HVAC enclosure, which is positioned directly adjacent to the firewall. To access it, our technicians typically need to remove the steering column, the center console, and the complete dashboard from the vehicle.
